No, seriously. What??
This is my new favorite collection-of-weird-things-from-another-country site.
Actually, it's my only favorite. Need I need more than this?
I think not.

Weber for Folio for Golding
Once again it’s time to delve into a discussion on the predicament of the human heart with my freshmen students. The conduit for discovery, argument, and a movement from “the ignorance of self to a tragic knowledge”, for those who haven’t gotten there yet, will be (or so I pray) Golding’s Lord of the Flies. I challenge each of my students before our reading to try with all their gusto to not find any correlation between themselves and all major characters. It's my belief that a bit of each, the leader Ralph, the intellectual Piggy, the savior Simon, and yes, the tyrant Jack and sadist Roger do reside within all *human souls; or at the very least, a potential.
And so, in an effort to find some visual cues to assist in this endeavor, I came across some beautiful images by Sam Weber for **The Folio Society's edition of the novel. They blew me away.

Beautiful eh? But, I also found this one...
Oh you crazy right-wingers.
*Some say that some animals have souls. Did you know this?
**That site is a book enthusiast/art appreciator's dream/lust lounge. Go ahead, spend fifty bucks on Slaughterhouse 5 or To Kill a Mockingbird. Or maybe a cool $185 on Walden by Henry "Dave" Thoreau. No biggie.

Remember Fatlip?
Yeah I don't either really. But, does this look/sound familiar? It's called What's Up Fatlip?
Man, I LOVE that. That's my jam, completely. There's just something about the self-depricating quirkiness, the dances, the humor, and the getting kicked in the groin part that just resonates with me. I mean, he's like the antithesis of "Rapper". So good.
The video was directed by Spike Jonze by the way. The white Spike, as in, NOT Spike Lee, who did a great film called, Do the Right Thing.

Among other things like Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Where the Wild Things Are, Jonze did some of my other favorite music videos, like this one by Bjork.
And this one for Fatlip's former group The Pharcyde.
Pretty fun huh?

Hello Friday Afternoon
I know that for some of you, you're working day is still painfully underway. Mine ended at 11:10 AM. Sorry, but I gots to brag. So to celebrate the already-upon-me weekend, I went out for lunch. Fullerton has a great pub called The Pint House, and their Fri-Sun lunch specials are excellent.
I'm a fo sho rocking that gym pass...soon...
That's a Bruschetta Chicken Sandwich with melted provolone, shredded romaine lettuce, and a garlic aioli spread on a wheat bun with parmesan fries. It also came with a caffeinated beverage. Nums. Pice? $7.95! A Great deal, and the service was exceptional. I decided to get a Stone IPA to complement. A good decision. They also have on special, a chicken caesar wrap, an Italian sub, two kinds of burgers, and a tri-tip dip. That, I will have next, and soon.
And as serene as this is, things get up come nightfall.
Na'mean?
As a plus, on one of the walls they screen foreign and classic films. AND there's a stage where singer-songwriter types cover everything from Journey to Fiona Apple to Blues Traveler (all of which are good for a sing-a-long).
The beer list is good too. Plenty of casual-drinker beverages and a good amount of craft brews as well, hence the Stone IPA. Not to mention, they put animals in your glass!

Looks like they're in the middle of that insecure stage called "Should We *NCMO or Not?"
And since we're on the topic, I personally feel this place makes for a great date spot. Fairly priced food and drink, sing-a-longs, enjoyable ambiance...and had that nurse called me back, I might have taken her here.
C'est la vie.
*Contrary to popular speculation, I do not, in fact, support such ambivalence. Don't worry though, I dismounted the High Horse in collage.

Front and Center
A week ago today I was driving south on the 5 from Berkeley headed home and trying to wean myself off the *high I had been on since early Saturday evening. Some close loves of mine and I went up that way to catch Arcade Fire at the Greek Theater. No assigned seating. Meaning, with enough patience one could have the opportunity to see one of today's best bands from a distance usually only the privileged experience. We had such patience, we were the privileged, it was the best show I've ever seen. Here are some shots of the weekend which included: leaving after one on Friday, stopping at a junk shop that took monetary donations (I bought Pilgrim and Tinker Creek and MC Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em on cassette), two nights in a Super 8 wherein ten people shared the room on Saturday (I slept width ways with three others and didn't even try to cuddle my bedfellows, unlike Friday), roasted-on-site coffee, IHOP (bleh), a shelter, six hours of waiting, front and center, euphoria.

Laurel drove for a little, I got tired.
Saturday morning.
Waiting for it, under a shelter.
At 9 I knew you well. You were my lover, you were my friend. At 29 you are my undoing. May caution ride the wind.
The shelter Emily and I made out of: a barricade I found lying in some ivy, a stick, a blanket, a shoestring.
Oh ok.
Catahoula on-site roaster.
I stole away early Saturday morning for a little time to myself. That coffee was STRONG. I should have bought a bag.
The blurriness denotes the uneasiness of riding an elevator that could have been in The Shinning.
See what I mean? Front and center.
